G-sTARs (GTAR) vs. Vixens (RVRG) – A Team is Born

It seems to have become an annual rite of passage.  Our game against the Rideau Valley Roller Girls.  Prior to this year it was the Debs vs. the Daughters, but with the restructuring of our league and a WFTDA Apprenticeship, this year matched the G-sTARs against RVRG’s powerhouse, the Vixens.

Though the scoreboard reflected a decisive victory for the Vixens (278 – 39), the G-sTARs locker room told another story.  If we were jubilant at the half, we were ecstatic by the end.  We went out there and played our hearts out.  We never quit, we never backed down, and we rejoiced in the little victories…a point here, a lead jammer there.  And sure, we lost.  But we lost TOGETHER!  We had competed as a TEAM!

Teamwork.  It’s been our catchword for the season.  And on Saturday we hit the track and lived, breathed, and achieved it.  Obviously there’s still room for improvement.  There always is.  But as first steps go we nailed it, and I can’t wait to see how we will build on that over the course of the season.  So when next year rolls around and we (hopefully) meet the Vixens again, it will be more of a litmus test for all that we’ve learned, and gained…as a TEAM.

Catch the G-sTARs on May 19th as they hit the track once again to take on the Lake Effect Furies (Queen City Roller Girls).  Ted Reeve Arena (175 Main Street @ Gerrard), doors open @ 6pm – game starts @ 7pm.  Tickets are $12. in advance or $15. at the door.  Check out our Events page for advance ticket information.Â
